Notes from the Future: Audio Journal II

[Further excerpts from an audio journal of voice memos made some days after the quake]

Part II
[Wind through car windows, engine running. Veronica in the middle of a sentence.]

Veronica: ... why it matters.

Edward: It matters to me. To keep a record.

Veronica: For who?

Edward: Just in case.
Aaaaaand, just in case you're only just now tuning in, folks, we've packed up the car Beverly Hillbilly style in order to drive toward, not away from but toward the really dangerous inland sea forming in the western 925 area code.
We drove around for a while in Springtown, Veronica was navigating. This might explain why it's now ... three forty five pm ...

Veronica (singing): Asshole!

Edward: She won't sing me a song if I beg her, but she will sing about my anus. It's love, folks. Y'oughtta try it.

Veronica: Where are we now?

Edward: You don't know? You're the one with the atlas, Navigator.
Folks, when I asked her to be the Navigator, she thought it was a relative of the crocodile ...

Veronica (laughing): Heyyyy! I did not. Oh ... my God, you are such a pain.

Edward: We are on ...

Veronica: On ...

Edward: Tell me, tell our listening audience: we are on what road?

Veronica: Oh, we are on May School Road. And right now we are turning, ladies and gentlemen, onto ...

Edward: Me now? Okay: onto North Livermore Avenue!

Veronica: Woo! High-five!

[SMACK, thump of microphone, Edward says ouch, sound cuts out.]
